It is needed to Level Up Gyms. Increased Gym levels would also give more slots for defending Pokemon and it would increase the Gym’s defense.
Training or battling with friendly Gyms would increase its Prestige. Every win in Training gives 50 Prestige points. To level up from Level 1 to Level 2, the Gym needs 500 Prestige points. To level up from Level 2 to Level 3, the Gym needs 1000 Prestige points. To level up from Level 3 to Level 4, the Gym needs 2000 Prestige points.
