This means that the move has inflicted a greater damage as compared to normal attacks. This depends on the type of move used and the type of Pokemon.

Some Pokemon types are weaker against one type but can be stronger compared to another type. For example, if Charmander uses Ember (Fire Type Move) to battle Bulbasaur, there is a possibility that the attack would be Super Effective. This is because Fire Type Moves can be super effective against Grass Type Pokemon. On the other hand, if Charmander would again use Ember on Squirtle, the attack is Not Very Effective because Fire Type Moves are not very much effective against Water Type Pokemon.
