Footprints indicate how far a Pokemon is away from you. They appear in the lower right corner of the screen, next to the silhouette of the Pokemon being tracked. Footprints range from 0 to 3. 0 means that the Pokemon is really close while 3 indicates that the Pokemon is quite far away.
