There are many ways on comparing your Pokemon. A trainer can compare them depending on their CP, Pokemon Type and Rarity. Some Pokemons even with a very high CP cannot with over another Pokemon with a lower CP because of the Pokemon’s type.
CP and Pokemon Type
Even though CP is an important factor in determining a Pokemon’s strength, the Pokemon type must also be considered. The Pokemon type will also determine some of its moves. An example of this is Flamethrower which is a Fire type move and can only be used by Fire Type Pokemons like Charmander. This move, when used against a Grass type Pokemon like Bulbasaur, can inflict damage that is Super Effective even if Bulbasaur have a higher CP than Charmander.
Rarity
Comparison of Pokemons can also be based on their rarity. Some Pokemon are just harder to find. They may only appear at certain time of the day, at a specific place and some can only be obtained from eggs, and the rarest ones only appear at some Pokemon Go events.
These Pokemons would include third evolution Pokemons like Charizard, Venosaur, Blastoise and Dragonite. The rarest ones are the Legendary Pokemons Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Mew and Mewtwo.
