Introduction

Raid Battles are cooperative battles where players work together to defeat very powerful Pokemon called Raid Bosses. Completing Raid Battles allow players to acquire unique rewards. Raid Battles take place at Gyms and up to 20 players can participate in a single battle.

How to Participate in Raid Battles

When a Raid Battle is starting soon, players nearby that meet the Trainer Level requirement will be notified. Players will need a Free Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass to participate in the raid. After entering the raid, players will be placed in a Public Raid Group or player can enter a Private Raid Group with a password. Players will wait in the Raid Lobby with fellow players in the same group. Players can see their teammates names, levels and stats.

Up to 20 players can be in the same Raid Group. Multiple raid groups can battle the same boss. When the battle starts, players fight the boss the same way they fight normal battles.

Rewards

After defeating the Raid Boss, players are awarded with the following Items:

Capturing the Raid Boss

After defeating the boss, players will get a Bonus Challenge to capture the Raid Boss as a normal, lower-level version of itself. Premier Ball will be supplied to the players to capture the boss. The number of Premier Balls a player gets depends on how well he or she did in the Raid. Note that Raid Bosses will have a lot higher IVs on average than their wild counterparts.

Raids are events organized by the game providers or their partners. These events involve a lot of players working together for a single goal. After that goal has been successfully reached, all the participants will be given a reward. In the Official trailer of the Pokemon Go app, a lot of players has been gathered around the Time Square. The goal in that raid is to defeat a level 70 Mewtwo within 10 minutes. After they have defeated the Pokemon, all of the participants got a Lvl 70 Mewtwo as a reward. In the future versions of Pokemon Go, more raids will be organized in different cities so if you are interested in the great rewards and rare Pokemon, then you must almost be on the look up for upcoming Pokemon Go Raids.

Official Announcement

All around the world, you’ll soon be able to participate in the new Raid Battle feature at Gyms. A Raid Battle is a cooperative gameplay experience that encourages you to work with other Trainers to defeat an extremely powerful Pokémon known as the Raid Boss. Before a Raid Battle begins, a large Egg will appear atop the Gym. When the countdown above the Egg reaches zero, the Raid Boss will be revealed.

Before you can battle the Raid Boss, you’ll need a Raid Pass. You can get one free Raid Pass per day by visiting a Gym, but you can only hold one at a time. You can also get Premium Raid Passes from the in-game shop. Upon using your pass to join the battle, you and up to 20 other Trainers work together to defeat the Raid Boss. If you successfully defeat the Raid Boss within the five-minute time limit, you’ll have the chance to catch an extra powerful Pokemon of your own!

After defeating a Raid Boss, you’ll receive a collection of rewards, including some new items obtained only by defeating a Raid Boss: Rare Candies, Golden Razz Berries, and two types of Technical Machines—Fast and Charged. A Rare Candy is a mysterious candy that, when used on a Pokémon, turns into that Pokémon’s Candy. Golden Razz Berries will greatly increase your chances of catching a Pokémon you encounter in the wild and can also be given to a Pokémon assigned to a Gym to fully recover its motivation meter. Technical Machines are items you can use to permanently teach a Pokémon a new Fast Attack or Charged Attack.
