List of All Gyms By Location

Basic Information

Gyms are locations around the world that allow players to battle other Pokemon to gain control of them. They appear as large structures in game. When you enter a Gym for the first time and you're at least level 5, you will be asked to choose a Team. When a Gym is silver, it means that it is currently unoccupied. You can claim it for your team and leave a Pokemon there to defend it.

Things to do at a Gym:

Controlled By Your Team Controller By An Enemy Team
Do Training Battles Attack the Gym
Place a Pokemon to Defend it

Gym Badges

Introduction

See also: Achievement Medals

Gym Badges track your activities with different Gyms around the world. Each Gym has a different Badge. Players can acquire and level up a specific Badge by battling at that Gym, giving Berries to Pokemon at that Gym and spinning that Gym's Photo Disc. Better Badge awards you with better reward at that Gym.

  • Each Gym has its own Badge.
  • Battling, feeding and spinning will level up the Badge.
  • High level Badge yields more items from that Gym when you spinning it and in Raid Battles.

Types of Badges

PokeCoins

PokeCoins are earned when your Pokemon is defending a Gym. 1 PokeCoin is earned every 10 minutes defended then multiplied by a Gym Badge multiplier. When the defending Pokemon is defeated, the PokeCoins earned are brought back with it. Your Pokemon needs to defend at least 10 minutes to earn a Coin.

  • Daily Cap: 50 PokeCoin
  • Weekly Cap: 350 PokeCoin
  • Gym Cap: 20 Gyms
  • Collected when the Defending Pokemon returns
  • Coin Gain: 1 Coin per 10 minutes

Levels and Prestige

Charts

Gyms have levels from 1 to 10. A gym's level equates to how many Pokemon it can have. The level of the gym is determined by the its Prestige.

Level Prestige
Required
Number of
Pokémon
1 0 1
2 2,000 2
3 4,000 3
4 8,000 4
5 12,000 5
6 16,000 6
7 20,000 7
8 30,000 8
9 40,000 9
10 50,000 10

You can increase the Prestige of a Gym owned by your Team by adding a Pokemon to it or through Training. Training is when you use up to 6 of your own Pokemon to battle against the Pokemon in the Gym. Once the Gym has gained enough Prestige and levels up, you can add 1 of the Pokemon to its defense. The Gym will also gain Prestige when it fends off enemy attackers.

You can decrease the Prestige of Gyms owned by enemy Teams by defeating the Pokemon defending the Gym. You'll be able to take over the Gym by reducing its Prestige to 0.

Act Prestige Gain/Drop
Add a Pokémon to the gym +2000
Defeat a Pokémon in Training +100
Defeat all Pokémon in Training +50
Using a Lower CP Pokemon to Defeat a Higher CP Pokemon in Training Prestige = 500 * (CP of Defender / CP of Attacker), Caps at 1000
Defeat an opposing Pokémon -1000
Defeat all opponent Pokémon -1000

Additional Information

The Strongest pokemon is that of the gym leader (marked with a crown). The Pokemon shows a CP and a Prestige.

If Prestige is 6000/8000, it means that if they train this gym enough to get the prestige to 8000, the gym will level up to level 4 and then it has space for 4 pokemon (with a maximum of lvl 10 ). In order for you to remove them from the gym you need to remove 6000 prestige. You remove 1000 prestige per pokemon you beat and you remove another 500 bonus prestige for beating every pokemon without losing one match. If you don’t have a pokemon strong enough to beat the gym leader's pokemon, you can still seriously diminish this gyms defense by defeating the two pokemon prior to it, you remove 2000 prestige.

Also, don’t forget that you have 6 pokemon to beat the gym with vs. whatever level the gym is, so in this case 3 pokemon (it could be 10 pokemon if the gym is lvl 10). So in short: 6 mediocre pokemon can beat 1 strong pokemon.

If we continue the example from above then you have 6 pokemon to defeat three pokemon. You will have to do this twice, since 6000-3000 (not considering the win bonus) = 3000. After which you can claim the gym.

When you claim a gym it starts out with 2000 prestige effectively making the gym lvl 2 and at lvl 2 it has space for two pokemon.

If you’re playing with someone else on your team or you know that people from your team are active in the area, then don’t immediately place your strongest pokemon on that gym. Place a beatable pokemon on the gym, something around CP500. This way you (or others from your team) can train and increase the gym level.

When training you’ll have to choose 1 pokemon. So choose wisely. You don’t have 5 backup pokemon to help you out.

Every time you beat the pokemon that’s already on the friendly gym, the gym get’s prestige. How much depends on a number of factors, but it seems you gain more prestige for the gym if you beat it with a pokemon that has a lower CP than the pokemon that’s placed on the gym. The more pokemon you beat, the more prestige you gain for your gym. So even if you can only beat one pokemon and lose to the next pokemon on the gym, you still gain prestige for the gym.

When the gym has the lvl or prestige of your liking, you (or a team mate) can now place the strongest available pokemon.

After you’ve placed all the pokemon you wanted to place on all the gyms in the area (you can only place one pokemon per gym), you can collect your defenders bonus in the shop.

The button will say how many pokemon you’ve placed and will give you stardust and golden coins depending on how many pokemon you've placed. But be sure to press this button only after you’ve placed all the pokemon you’ve wanted to place, since you can only press it once every 21hrs.

You can place as many pokemon as you want (with a maximum of one per gym), but you’ll only get a reward up to 10 pokemon placed.

If you take a look at your pokemon list, you’ll also see a gym icon at every pokemon you’ve placed.

When that pokemon is knocked off the gym it will return with 1HP. So you don’t lose your pokemon, you lend them to the gym.

Fun fact: if your pokemon is the one that made the attacker lose it will say ‘Battles won: X’ beneath him in the gym overview screen.

Gym Battles

When the Gym is not controlled by your Team, you can battle it to lower its Prestige and gain control of it. Select up to 6 of your Pokemon and challenge the Pokemon defending the Gym.

Tap the screen to unleash Standard Moves and lower its HP. You can also dodge your enemy's attacks by swiping left and right. When your Pokemon's Energy bar is filled up, tap and hold the screen to unleash your Special Moves and do more damage.

Defender Bonus

See also: Defender Bonus

Defender Bonus is an award you earn by having your Pokemon defend one or multiple Gyms. Once every 21 hours, you can tap the shield icon in Shop to collect the reward. For each gym you have a Pokémon in, you will get 10 PokéCoins and 500 Stardust. The more Pokemon you have defending gyms, the bigger your reward.

  • Note that you can see the number of Pokemon you have in Gyms on the shield icon.

How to tell Gym's Level from its Appearance

You can tell a Gym's level by counting how many floors a gym has under the big square platform.

A gym's appearance changes every 3 levels:

  • Gym levels 1, 2, 3: 2 floors
  • Gym levels 4, 5, 6: 3 floors
  • Gym levels 7, 8, 9: 4 floors
  • Gym level 10: 5 floors

Appearance depends solely on the gym's level. For example, a level 10 gym with only 1 Pokemon defending it will still have 5 floors.

Sniping Gyms

Note in Update 0.45.0 for Android and 1.15.0 for iOS, When you defeat the Gym Leader at a rival Gym, there will be a brief period of time where only you will be able to place a Pokémon in the open Gym.

Gym Prestige isn't awarded in a lump sum after a combat session completes. Prestige is actually awarded after each individual Pokemon is defeated in combat. This means that enemies can "snipe" (steal) your opportunity to deploy Pokemon while you're still fighting.

If a Gym receives enough Prestige that a new slot opens up, or the Gym's team overturns while you are still battling, you may wish to flee the battle before defeating all the deployed Pokemon. Otherwise, you leave that slot vulnerable to passersby.

Gym Errors

Several things could be happening:

  • Another defending Pokémon may have been added while you were in combat, which could happen if someone managed to raise the Gym's prestige as you were trying to knock it down.
  • Your game crashed or you force quit the app during battle—prematurely ending it—and the game locked you out (only for a few minutes, though. Try again later!).
  • Your GPS drifted out of the Gym range during battle, also prematurely ending it, so the game locked you out.
